VOLUNTEER POLICY
This Home and School volunteer policy is established to communicate the parish and school’s interest in the involvement of the parents, families and other members of the parish community in volunteer activities. The goal is to enhance the quality of the core educational activities and provide extra-curricular programs such as room parents, fundraising functions, and forensics through the efforts of volunteers, rather than additional paid staff members. Through the creation of a volunteer program and policy statement, identification and engagement of the necessary volunteer participation of all school families will be achieved.

The Home and School needs a minimum commitment of 20 hours of volunteer service from each family to provide a base of volunteer hours to continue to run the programs we sponsor. School lunch program and athletic related volunteering is not included in this number. We have two levels of volunteer needs. We expect every family to volunteer in one of the three major events in Group A, Spook N Spoof, Auction for Education and Field Day. We also expect each family member to pick at least one on going or grade specific role in Group B (see volunteer sign up sheet).

The Home and School Committee maintains a position of Volunteer Coordinator to provide information on the volunteer opportunities available and coordinate assignment of volunteer based on expressed areas of interest. The Volunteer Coordinator keeps track of these contributions of time and effort to encourage every family to participate in both groups and fulfill this requirement. In this way, our children are well-served and no adults are overburdened.

In May a comprehensive listing of volunteer opportunities available for the upcoming school year will be provided to each school family. The Volunteer Form will include information regarding the types of volunteer opportunities available and the approximate date the service is required.

The Volunteer Form must be completed and signed by each school family and returned to the school office by May 12th, 2009. The information provided in the Volunteer Form will be collected by the Volunteer Coordinator and utilized to prepare a list of interested volunteers to be submitted the Leaders/Chairs of the programs and activities.

The Archdioceses of Milwaukee requires that all volunteers complete a standard application form, complete Safeguarding All of God's Family Training, and read and sign the Code of Ethics and Mandatory Reporting requirement. The parish will conduct criminal background checks on all volunteers. A volunteer is anyone who interacts with school children more than twice per semester. If you have not completed this training, sessions will be offered in the fall.

SMV couldn’t do it without our parents - THANK YOU!
