The sacrament of marriage celebrates the covenant of self-giving love between man and woman, and reflects the mystery of unity and love between Christ and his Church. St. Mary's offers the following to insure that couples receive proper instruction and the support of the parish community as they prepare for life together:
The couple first meets with a priest or deacon before a date can be scheduled. (One of the engaged should be a registered member of the parish for at least six months.)
A sponsor couple will administer and review the FOCCUS premarital inventory and offer instruction and support throughout the process.
Each couple must attend their choice of marriage preparation course sponsored by the Archdiocese.
The couple will meet with the parish priest or deacon to plan the liturgy and discuss the Sacrament of Marriage.
Music for the wedding day is coordinated through the Director of Liturgical Music.
The Catholic Church takes preparation for the Sacrament of Matrimony very seriously. Generally at least 6 months should be allowed for this preparation. Engaged couples should call the pastor to schedule an appointment to discuss their plans. Marriage can take place any day of the week, although Saturday is generally preferred by couples. Sunday weddings are possible, but a wedding Mass is not allowed for such occasions.
