Families

“The family is the original cell of social life. It is the natural society in which husband and wife are called to give themselves in love and in the gift of life. Authority, stability, and a life of relationships within the family constitute the foundations for freedom, security, and fraternity within society. The family is the community in which, from childhood, one can learn moral values, begin to honor God, and make good use of freedom. Family life is an initiation into life in society.”

Catechism of the Catholic Church #2207

Parents are to be the first and foremost educators of their children, but they need support and assistance. We encourage all families to attend Mass, the Celebration of the Word and the Eucharist, together every Sunday (or the Saturday Mass of Anticipation). Pray together – prayers at mealtime and bedtime are a wonderful tradition. Through the Adult and Family Ministry department, programs that are geared to families will help provide guidance with a little fun mixed in. In addition, there is a valuable resource on the internet in the form of the Family and Church website, www.familyandchurch.org established by the Wisconsin Diocesan Family Ministers. It contains materials that can be printed and used by families including activities, prayers, quotes, topics of the month, and products. It is updated monthly.

Some Events that families can participate in together include the Parish Picnic, St. Nick at Nite, the Pancake Breakfast, the Family Rosary (monthly), What’s Holy About Holy Thursday, and May Crowning. See the Adult and Family Calendar for specific dates and times.
