K5-8th Grade Religious Education ProgramOur K5-8th grade program meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 September through May. Curriculums used for the program are age appropriate and are based on prayer, scripture and Church doctrine. Children in 2nd grade are given additional preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion.
First ReconciliationChildren are offered preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation prior to First Communion. This preparation is included in curriculum at St. Mary's Parish School and in Religious Education classes for parish children not attending the school. Parents are required to attend one parent only evening class prior to their children receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This is a time for parents to receive information on the Theology of Reconciliation and to ask any questions they may have. A special celebration of the sacrament is held in January for those receiving the sacrament for the first time. Family participation is always encouraged and parents are invited to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation along with their children. Further study of the Sacrament of Reconciliation takes place in 4th and 6th grade. Contact Angie Lehner for more information at (262) 782-9470 or alehner@stmaryeg.org First CommunionParish children in 2nd grade enter into preparation for First Communion. Preparation includes instruction about the Mass and prayers, lessons related to the Eucharist, a parent only class and a special preparation day for both parents and their children. Children receive instruction through curriculum in St. Mary's Parish School or in Religious Education classes for parish children not attending the school. At the completion of instruction a special liturgy is celebrated on the first Sunday in May. Special preparation for older children who have not celebrated Eucharist or Reconciliation is offered through the Christian Formation Office each fall. Contact Angie Lehner for more information at (262) 782-9470 or alehner@stmaryeg.org.
