Ongoing Adult Formation Opportunities “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of life…we proclaim also to you, so that you may have fellowship with us; and our fellowship is with the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. And we are writing this that our joy may be complete.” (1 John 1:1-4)

The Adult Catholic Formation program at St. Mary’s Visitation Parish addresses the needs of the approximately fifteen hundred family units in our parish focusing on integrating sacramental, spiritual, doctrinal, and fellowship programming, with the aim of “putting people…in communion…with Jesus Christ” (Catechesi Tradendae, 5).

Ongoing doctrinal and catechetical formation and Young Adult programming, as well as RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults), spirituality, Bible study, other sacramental formation, small faith communities, and other special programming are the areas overseen by Adult Catholic Formation. Programs are both short-term and on-going and are shared with St. Joseph Congregation in Wauwatosa. And some programming is offered as a collaborative effort with St. John Vianney and St. Dominic parishes in Brookfield.

“The whole concern of doctrine and its teaching must be directed to the love that never ends. Whether something is proposed for belief, for hope, or for action, the love of our Lord must always be made accessible, so that anyone can see that all the works of perfect Christian virtue spring from love and have no other objective than to arrive at love.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 25, quoting the Roman Catechism, Preface, 10)
